When Larry Leight and Ken Schwartz first opened their eyewear store on the famous Sunset Boulevard in 1986, their ambition was to offer a range of frames that captured both the essence of Los Angeles and the American design of the 1920s – 1950s era, or the Hollywood heyday as it was known. Luckily for the two aspiring eyewear designers, they found an estate sale in Connecticut that provided them with a huge collection of unworn vintage glasses and the necessary machinery. They also found out the name of the deceased owner, Oliver Peoples; and so, a brand was born.
Although a fledging company, their vintage glasses soon sold and the popularity of vintage inspired them to begin designing their own frames. To this day, Oliver Peoples maintains their focus on vintage and retro aesthetics with the use of subtle detailing and it’s this homage to the “heyday” that’s won them the legion of fans they now have globally. The Oliver Peoples prescription glasses in particular are a real hit, offering wearers of spectacles the chance to express their own individuality with the help of different materials, design and focus. The Oliver Peoples eyewear range has become such a hit in fact that they’re now seen on an array of A-listers from Ray Liota to Bar Paly, only furthering the recognition of the signature ‘OV’ logo. As a result, OV has now become synonymous with quality, design and of course, Hollywood.
