Thom Browne himself was born in Pennsylvania in 1965 but it wasn’t until 1997 that he moved to New York where he began working within the fashion industry. Thom took his first job working in Giorgio Armani in their showroom which eventually lead to a position working in the creative department of Club Monaco and it’s here he stayed, with his own cogs turning until he eventually launched his own label. Thom Browne believed that casual dress would lend the wearer of suits a subversive edge and it was with this attitude that he first developed his impeccably tailored suits in traditional materials. While initially shocking to the rest of the fashion world, Thom Browne’s designs have now placed him at the vanguard of menswear and as he continues to draw inspiration from the classics of American style, his army of fans continue to grow.
This award-winning designer however didn’t want to stop at clothing and subsequently moved on, designing a fabulous range of eyewear in 2011. Thom said, “As a designer, I’m supposed to be provoking people’s reactions and getting them to see things differently. That’s the only way things move forward” and it’s this attitude that he took with him when creating his eyewear collection. Teaming up with the LA-based eyewear designer Dita, Thom Browne glasses offer a unisex design, inspired by studio artists, industrial designers and of course the professors of the 40s, 50s and even 60s. Each eyewear style is marked with the signature red, white and blue logo famously associated with the brand, along with a four-stripe hinge.
